The old land of Hyrule was once created by the three goddesses; Din, goddess of power, Nayru, goddess of wisdom and Farore, goddess of Courage. When this world was created the goddesses returned to heaven, but before they departed they left behind the legendary Triforce, a golden emblem formed as three triangles which is said to hold great power. Whoever touches the Triforce will see his highest wishes come true. To protect this power and prevent evil forces to get their hands on it, the old sages hid it in the Sacred Realm.

Twilight Princess was originally meant to be released in 2005, but was pushed back a year in order to improve it more. When it was finally released, it became released on both GameCube and Wii. Seeing as Link was originally left handed, the Wii version of the game was mirrored to work better with the Wii remote's abilities.

The story starts in the peaceful little village Ordon where a young man called Link lives. He is the village's finest horseman and the farmer's right hand. Besides, the master swordsman in Ordon is giving him lessons in swordsmanship and one day he decides to trust a job onto Link; Link is to deliver a gift to the Castle of Hyrule.
But on the day this is to happen, a group of monsters shows up in the village and kidnaps the children as well as Link's childhood friend, Ilia. Link follows the monsters only to be dragged through a mysterious black wall that has appeared.
When Link wakes up he finds himself having turned into a wolf, chained up inside a prison cell. Outside the prison cell flies Midna, a strange creature that offers to help him get out and whilst doing so leads him to the top of the castle to meet Princess Zelda. Zelda explains to Link that Hyrule has been overthrown by the King of Twilight, Zant. The people of Hyrule cannot see this, but Zant is intending to cover Hyrule in twilight in order to merge Hyrule with the Twilight Realm.
Heading back to Ordon with Midna, she offers to help Link rescue the children and Ilia, if he in exchange assist her in stopping Zant. Seeing as Link cannot enter the areas already covered in twilight without the help of Midna he has no choice, and they then embark on their journey together.
